Brisbane

After the Koala Sanctuary we drove back to the city. We walked around Southbank and through the parklands. I think this is the prettiest park of Brisbane. I have to be honest, I wasn't a huge fan of Brisbane in general. Driving through the city was about to drive Rob and I to the nut house! The roads are so confusing and each street had about three different names. Other than a few spots, there wasn't much appeal.

The city

A little manmade beach in the middle of the city

After walking around the parklands and having a quick bite to eat at a Japanese Noodle Bar, we drove to Mt. Coot-tha and walked up to the Brisbane Mt. Coot-tha Lookout for some great views of the city. View from the lookout in Mt. Coot-tha

After the lookout we drove around and tried to find some nightlife but got frustrated trying to navigate through the city so we just watched a movie on the laptop and called it a night.

The next morning we woke up early and walked on some of the walking trails that were near the lookout we'd been to the night before.

We walked to Simpson Falls, but there were no falls.

After our walk we went back to the city and walked around the parklands again.

We then showered and went to pick up our new home: the campervan! Our new Hippie Camper was a white van with big purple flowers painted all over it. We loaded up our bags into the big monster and set out to try to attempt to drive that bad boy through the streets of Brisbane.

We stopped for lunch at Breakfast Creek:
At 4pm we had a tour booked at the XXX Gold Brewery (a Queensland brewing company). I wasn't too thrilled about it as I'm not a beer drinker, but I bought a "non drinker" ticket and did the tour anyway.

Pictures weren't allowed but we snuck a few anyway:

After the boring brewery tour we went to Woolies to do some grocery shopping for dinner. We loaded the groceries into our fridge in the Hippie Camper and drove out to our camping spot. We got situated, set up the table in the back and I grilled our beef and vegetable rissoles on our portable grill. We had a nice dinner with the rissoles, ceasar salad and a pasta salad.

After dinner we transformed the dinner table into the bed and had the best sleep ever in the Hippie Camper!

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

5/11/09
We woke up early in Brisbane and decided to go for a walk through Venman Bushland National Park just outside of the city. We looked around for koalas in the trees but didn't have any luck. We did see a kangaroo with a little joey in her pouch but it was still a little dark in the morning so our pictures didn't turn out.

After our bushwalk we made our way to the visitor's centre to get some info on the city. We decided that we should go check out the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. We'd seen koalas in Sydney and in Melbourne but in the zoos in New South Whales you aren't allowed to hold them; in Queensland it's legal to "cuddle a koala"!

So cute!

My little baby bear. I wanted to keep him.
After cuddling the koala we moved on to the kangaroo area:

Uh oh....

And back to the koalas...

Big stretch!

Scary snake!

Pile of turtles

We finally got to see a Tasmanian devil!
