Octoberfest!

It's October, and that can only mean one thing: beer-drinkin' time!

Lowenbrau-a fun pub in The Rocks with HUGE beer glasses!

I don't even drink beer but can always appreciate a good photo op

Rob-on the other hand-DOES drink beer

Australian Beer Festival at the Australian Hotel in The Rocks. Over 100 of Australian brewing companies exhibited their beer outdoors on a GORGEOUS day (and no...Fosters beer isn't popular here and wasn't at the Festival)

So cute-rocking our new Ed Hardy t-shirts at the Beer Festival

We took a ferry out to Watson's Bay after the beer festival. No beer was served on the ferry so I had to bring along my can of UDL (vodka, soda, and lime in a can....awesome)

Cute pic of Rob taking in the view from the boat.

Ahoy!

Watson's Bay (we actually took the wrong ferry originally and by the time we actually got to Watson's Bay we had half an hour before the last ferry left to go back to the city. We enjoyed a bowl of "chips" at the first restaurant we saw then got right back on the boat and went home)

2008 Aria Awards

Rob and I had tickets to the 2008 Aria Awards which are kind of like the Grammy's for Australian artists. We got to the event early and got a great spot to watch all of the stars arrive in their limos. We took about 400 pictures, but here are a few of the good ones:

The venue

MTV's set up

The red carpet

Brian McFadden (he sings that song "Only a Woman Can")

Axle Whitehead (I don't know who this guy is but apparently at the 2007 Arias he got a little tipsy and "whipped it out" on stage)

PINK! Obviously not and Aussie, but she was the guest performer and she was awesome. Big fan.

The Fakers (they sing "This Heart Attack")

Mine and Rob's reflection in someones limo

Natalie Bassingthwaighte

haha, I don't know! They have some musical called Priscilla: Queen of the Desert

This guy's name is Rove and he has a nighttime show that is a mix between Conan O'Brian and SNL. We like his show.

Gabriella Cilmi (She was the star of the night winning 6 Arias and she's only 17! She sings "Sweet About Me" and "Don't Wanna Go To Bed Now"

The Veronicas (they're huge here and I think they're decently popular in the States. They sing "Untouched" and "Take me on the Floor" And they each weigh about 95lbs soaking wet! )

Two really good looking famous people

Sculptures By The Sea

Every year, artists from around the world come to Sydney to exhibit their art outdoors at an event called Sculpture by the Sea. It is staged alongside Sydney's gorgeous Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk and is Australia's largest annual outdoor free to the public exhibition of sculpture. This year there were 100 sculptures from 7 different countries.

We started at Bondi Beach and walked to Tamarama Beach stopping along the way to have lunch on the rocks at McKenzies Bay but then we continued on and did the rest of the Coastal Walk even after the sculptures ended. We passed Bronte Beach, Clovelly, Gordon's Bay, and then ended at Coogee where we laid out on the beach for awhile. It was beautiful; however, little did we know that all along the way we were slowly but surely being introduced to our first and worst Australian sunburns! Our shoulders and faces and ears suffered greatly for about a week afterwards! Even as I write this 9 days after the event, my shoulders and forehead are peeling off in layers. Gross!

This isn't actually a sculpture. Apparently there is a man that lives in a little cave on Bondi Beach. We found it during the Coastal Walk-he has a pretty sweet set up to be honest!

Can you find the sculpture on the beach?

This is an enormous/creepy cemetery....in a prime real estate location.

Pussy Cat Dolls at the Opera House

The Pussy Cat Dolls recently performed at the Opera House for a small group of about 200 people. X-Box was doing some promotional thing and they put on a private show for people who won tickets on their website. Unfortunately, Rob and I didn't win. We took a stroll down to the Opera House anyway to see if we could get a glimpse of the Dolls performance and happened into a bit of luck (well, for me anyway). It was a pretty nasty night out and about halfway through the show it started to rain and people started to leave the show. One guy was heading out and I asked him how we could get in (I had already tried schmoozing with the security guards...to no avail) and he slung off his VIP pass and threw it to me and said that it would get me into the after party too. So I scurried in around security (different guy by this time) who yelled at me to come over to him so I did. He looked at my pass and said, "You know you can't come back in once you leave." And I said, "What??? Are you serious? I didn't know!" (true). And he told me that I wasn't supposed to, but then he waved me on in. I got right up next to the stage and caught the last 2 songs that the band sang! Poor Rob was stuck waiting out in the rain while I got close ups of the Pussy Cat Dolls and then got into the private tent afterwards where they were serving hors devours and free alcohol!

I got some good pictures and 2 videos of their songs:
