Jerry Springer: The Opera

On our last Sunday in Sydney we decided on the most cliche event we could think of: a day at the Opera House. We bought tickets for a Sunday matinee show called Jerry Springer: the Opera. It was just as trashy as it sounds but pretty funny and there were some incredible voices including Katie Miller-Heidke (popular Australian singer). David Wenhem who was in the movie Australia played the part of Jerry.

Along with an eight piece band, 21 actors played the cast of low-lifes and audience members who reveal their secrets, cuss each other and fight as their embarrassments come to life on TV.

To give you an idea, here are some of the song titles from the show:

  • “I used to be a lap-dancing pre-operative transsexual”
  • "Dip me in chocolate and throw me to the lesbians"
  • "I've been seeing someone else..."
  • "Chick with a dick"
